Navigating Drug Therapy for Dairy Goats
Missouri Ag Connection - 09/14/2021

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach dairy team will continue its quarterly dairy goat webinar focusing on "Navigating Drug Therapy for Dairy Goats" Sept. 22 from noon to 1:15 p.m.

Recently, the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine has been investigating methods to improve antibiotic stewardship in dairy goats to assure food safety and milk quality.

During this webinar, Pat Gorden and Michelle Buckley, veterinarians with the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, will provide information on judicious use of antibiotics and how to utilize withdrawal times appropriately as applied to dairy goats.

"These initial studies have laid the framework for our understanding of drug withdrawal times in dairy goats following antimicrobial use," Gorden said. "We hope that our future studies will demonstrate how strategic antimicrobial use can improve milk quality."

There is no fee to attend the program; however, registration is required.

This work is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Agricultural and Food Research Initiative Competitive Program, Antimicrobial Resistance.

Register in advance for this meeting at https://iastate.zoom.us/meeting/register/drugtherapydairygoat or contact Jennifer Bentley, dairy specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, at jbentley@iastate.edu or 563-382-2949.
