State Corn Maturing, Soybean Coloring Ahead of Averages

Temperatures last week averaged 72.3 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.02 inches statewide, 1.03 inches below normal. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent very short, 28 percent short, and 65 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 18 percent very short, 31 percent short, and 51 percent adequate.

Corn matured reached 81 percent, 20 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested progressed to 25 percent this week. Corn condition was rated 20 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 24 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.

Soybeans coloring reached 60 percent, 19 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 22 percent, 6 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybeans harvested reached 2 percent this week. Soybean condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.

Cotton bolls opening reached 82 percent, 16 percentage points ahead of last week and 42 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Cotton harvested reached 2 percent this week. Cotton condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.

Rice harvested progressed to 21 percent this week. Rice condition was rated 10 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Sorghum turning color progressed to 83 percent, while sorghum matured reached 40 percent and sorghum harvested progressed to 4 percent this week. Sorghum condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 30 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.
