MDA Seeks Comments on Ag Trade Promotion Program
Missouri Ag Connection - 09/20/2018

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) formally introduced plans for a new Agriculture Trade Promotion Program (ATP) to help develop foreign markets for U.S. agricultural products. The program is designed to help exporters identify and access new markets and help mitigate the adverse effects of other countries' restrictions.

The proposed rules governing the ATP were published and are currently available for review and comment. The USDA states they will prioritize funding for requests that reflect the broadest representation of producers and processors. The Missouri Department of Agriculture seeks engagement on the application for the funds. Stakeholder suggestions will serve as the foundation of the MDA application.

Department officials encourage Missouri agribusiness leaders to think of activities they would like to see the Department facilitate to address trade constraints, both in the markets directly affected by tariffs as well as with alternate markets.

Please reach out to Brenda Verslues, manager of the Domesticand& International Marketing program, with suggestions for specific activities, markets of interest and comments by close of business Sept. 24.
