Leadership Ash Grove Class 2 Begins in March
Missouri Ag Connection - 01/28/2020

After a successful launch of Leadership Ash Grove in 2019, registration is now underway for the 2020 Leadership Ash Grove class.

Leadership Ash Grove is a leadership and personal development program provided in Ash Grove and other communities by University of Missouri Extension.

"We had 18 people in the first Leadership Ash Grove this fall and because of their hard work and involvement, the program is going to continue with a second class in 2020," said David Burton, county engagement specialist with University of Missouri Extension and a native of Ash Grove.

This program funded primarily by an anonymous grant and additional funds from the Greene County MU Extension Council and Greene County Commission. Additional partners include the City of Ash Grove and the Ash Grove Sunshine Center.

Leadership Ash Grove II monthly meetings will run March to November (fourth Thursday of the month starting on March 26). Meetings start at 8:30 a.m. (at City Hall) and wrapping up with lunch and a guest at the Sunshine Center.

The class projects will be done on "Make a Difference Day" which is October 24, 2020. Other residents and community groups can join in the effort too and make this an impactful day in Ash Grove. Make A Difference Day: https://www.makeadifferenceday.com/about/resources/

"Making this a community success depends a lot on area employers. Local businesses can support their employee's development by giving them one half day a month to attend Leadership Ash Grove," said Burton.

A key reminder for employers: training adds value to people. The MU Extension leadership programs provide that value and training in a local context.

"Then also, there are people here in Ash Grove during the day, farmers and retirees even, that could easily attend during the day and could benefit from the experience," said Burton. "Grow your network, discover strengths and threats in your community, and learn to lead yourself, in your neighborhood and in your community by enrolling in Leadership Ash Grove."

This new class will have an enrollment cost of $25 per person along with a lunch cost of $6 per person at the Sunshine Center each month.

Registration must be done on the MU Extension website. Go to http://extension.missouri.edu/greene and click on the events tab for Greene County programs.

There are also planned orientation sessions for those that want to know more about the program.

For additional information, or to have a registration packet or orientation information mailed to you or your employer, contact David Burton at (417) 881-8909 or by email at burtond@missouri.edu.
