'Cooking Matters at the Store' in Theodosia, Gainsville

University of Missouri Extension's "Cooking Matters at the Store" class provides a guided grocery store tour to help families buy healthy and affordable foods.

Tour participants practice buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, comparing unit prices to find bargains, reading food labels, sticking to a budget and more.

The first tour will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Town and Country Supermarket in Gainesville. The second tour will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cash Saver Pantry in Theodosia.

Stephanie Johnson, nutrition and health specialist with University of Missouri Extension, and Christy Crisp, nutrition education associate with MU Extension, will teach both classes.

Class participants will receive a grocery gift card, a workbook of recipes and a reusable grocery bag. The class is free but it is limited to eight individuals. Pre-registration is required.
