Missouri Ag Connection - 02/12/2018

Farmers and ranchers in southwest Missouri are invited to attend the 88th Annual Stone County Livestock and Forage Conference held in Crane during March

This conference will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Crane First Baptist Church, located 2/10 mile south of Crane, Missouri on Hwy 413 (30 Hallelujah Ave).

"This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality beef products for consumers," said Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist.

The program this year will focus on two main topics.

Dr. Tim Evans, associate professor with the University of Missouri Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Columba, will discuss reasons why there could be cattle death on farms, including poisonous weeds. He will provide tips for preventing these types of needless losses in the cattle herd.

Dr. Craig Payne, state extension veterinarian from Columbia, will discuss vaccination strategies for cow-calf beef operations.

There is a small fee to attend and participants are encouraged to pre-register by Feb. 12 to reserve a meal. A ribeye steak sandwich meal will be provided courtesy of Community National Bank, FCS Financial, Joplin Regional Stockyards, Old Missouri Bank, Simmons Bank, Southwest Missouri Cattlemen's Association, Stone County Soil & Water Conservation District and V-Mar Farm Store.

It is important that attendees pre-register with the Stone County MU Extension Center by Feb. 12. Call 417-357-6812 for information or send payment to Stone County Extension Center, P.O. Box 345, Galena, MO 65656.
