MoDNR Awards $50,000 to Holcomb
Missouri Ag Connection - 03/24/2017

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50,000 Small Community Engineering Assistance Program grant to the city of Holcomb, in Dunklin County, to evaluate wastewater treatment upgrades and collection system repairs.

"The department is committed to helping communities," said Carol S. Comer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. "This grant will help evaluate the city's infrastructure needs in order to protect public health and will provide future economic savings to the community."

The city will use the grant funds to develop a facility plan that will evaluate wastewater treatment upgrades that are necessary in order to meet new permit limits for disinfection. The facility plan will also evaluate the wastewater collection system for inflow and infiltration issues. Inflow and infiltration can be groundwater, stormwater or drinking water flowing directly into the sewer system. This results in higher volumes of water being unnecessarily transported and treated, which increases costs and energy usage. The facility plan is estimated to cost $62,500 and is expected to be completed in summer 2017.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds and is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. The department's Water Protection Financial Assistance Center assists with funding for communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs.
