Christian Co. Master Gardeners 'The Dirt on Invasive Plants'

The public is invited to Christian County Master Gardeners' program on March 25 featuring Barbara Kipfer and her program "The Dirt on Invasive Plants" starting at 6:30 p.m., at Central Bank of the Ozarks, Highways 14 and 160, Nixa.
Space is limited to 20 guests, so if you are not a CCMG member, register early to attend this free program by calling (417) 581-3558.
Plants have fascinated Kipfer, a retired registered nurse and member of the Springfield Plateau Missouri Master Naturalists, since her childhood in central Kansas.
In 1973, she and her husband, Bob, moved to Springfield and have been enjoying the clear streams, flora and fauna of the Ozarks ever since.
About 25 years ago, they purchased land in Christian County along Bull Creek and began to realize how much they did not know about their outdoor world. While protecting the native plants and animals she loves, Kipfer began the fight against aggressive plant invaders.
Attendees may be surprised to learn that some of the invasive plants are "ornamental" plants in yards.
The Master Gardener Program is a popular and successful statewide volunteer community-service organization administered through University of Missouri Extension. The organization's goal is to train gardeners who are willing to share their knowledge with others. Master Gardeners become volunteers of University of Missouri Extension and donate hours for community educational projects in horticulture. Volunteer activities include working with non-profit organizations, maintaining community gardens, conducting workshops, participating in a Master Gardener speakers' bureau and staffing the Master Gardener "Hotline."
