Lofaro Named MU Tiger Ambassador for Greene County
Missouri Ag Connection - 03/22/2018

The Greene County University of Missouri Extension Council has named Mike Lofaro of Springfield as the first MU Tiger Ambassador for Greene County through a new program designed to raise awareness of Mizzou Athletics statewide.

Lofaro was identified as a county resident with real passion for Mizzou athletics through an essay he submitted as part of the search process. He was encouraged to apply by an extension council member.

Lofaro is a season ticket holder for Missouri football and the creator and organizer of http://www.mizzoutailgate.com. He also regularly attends Mizzou men's basketball games.

"I wanted to do more than just sit in the stands and watch the football game. ... I started my own Mizzou Tailgate outside of the stadium. It started small with family and friends but over the years, the tailgate grew to include hometown friends from Springfield," said Lafaro. "The tailgate eventually grew so large I created the website to make things more organized and convenient for the large amount of people attending."

The website also combined Lofaro's two favorite things: Mizzou sports and the internet.

Lofaro, the owner of Business Solutions of Springfield, has 25 years of experience in technology consulting. During those 25 years Lofaro has also stayed active in the community and raised two children in the very schools he and his wife attended years ago.

Both of Lofaro's children are students at the University of Missouri. His son is a junior, majoring in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communications. His son also does graphic design work for Mizzou's volleyball team. His daughter is a freshman working toward a nursing degree.

"I truly believe the tradition and love that surrounds Mizzou does not need to be limited to Columbia. I will continue to do my best to share my passion for this incredible school in and around my community, and anywhere else I can, as the MU Athletic Tiger Ambassador for Greene County," said Lofaro.

The ambassador program is designed to help generate enthusiasm for Mizzou athletes, teams and accomplishments, and to enhance the visibility of MU teams in all 114 counties by deputizing athletic ambassadors through the established network of County MU Extension Councils.

Each county extension council appoints someone who is enthusiastic about MU and its teams, and who has the desire to be a source of information where they live about Mizzou and Mizzou Athletics. In return, Ambassadors will enjoy a unique experience that comes with some insider perks in exchange for helping us to educate and engage Mizzou fans in their communities,
