Southern Missouri Too Wet for Much Fieldwork

Temperatures last week averaged 57.4 degrees, 0.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.93 inches statewide, 0.06 inches below normal. The southernmost parts of Missouri received above-average rainfall and remained too wet for much fieldwork. There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus.

Corn planted progressed to 16 percent this week, 2 percentage points ahead of last year but 17 percentage points behind the 5-year average, while corn emerged progressed to 2 percent.

Cotton planted progressed to 2 percent.

Rice planted progressed to 23 percent, 12 percentage points behind the 5-year average, while rice emerged progressed to 4 percent.

Winter wheat headed progressed to 2 percent, the same as last year. Winter wheat condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 46 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
