MDA Hosting Lumber Grading Short Course in June
Missouri Ag Connection - 04/24/2019

The Missouri Department of Agriculture is hosting a five-day lumber grading short course in conjunction with the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) June 10-14 in Fayette. The training is open to 20 people in the forestry industry who are interested in learning how to grade lumber. People who received the training certification in the past, may still take this training as a refresher course and/or for professional development/educational credits. Participants will receive educational packets including:

- NHLA Rules Book

- Intro to Grading Hardwood Lumber

- Illustrated Guide to Hardwood Lumber

- Grading Tri-Fold Cards

By the end of the training, attendees should be able to successfully grade lumber. The training will also empower participants to grow themselves and their businesses, increase market opportunities for their businesses and establish a more efficient production line in their workplaces.

This event is free to all Missourians; anyone outside of Missouri will be charged $50. MDA will pay for the short course fees and lunch daily for everyone. All participants are responsible for their own travel costs, lodging, and daily breakfast and dinner. Nearest hotel accommodations can be made in Boonville or Columbia.

The deadline to register is June 1. Contact Forestry Marketing Specialist Kayla Otto to register at Kayla.Otto@mda.mo.gov or (573) 751-7213.
