The Barry County Extension Council has welcomed a new member to the University of Missouri Extension faculty.

Eden Stewart started work out of the Barry County Extension office. Stewart has worked in McDonald County as a Nutrition Program Associate for the past four years while she earned her master's degree.

"I had the pleasure to teach children and adults basic nutrition information. However I wanted to make a broader impact by expanding basic nutrition which I could not do in my former position," said Stewart.

Stewart is looking forward to teaching classes in her three counties of responsibilities (Barry, McDonald, and Newton) and teaching healthy life skills.

She expresses excitement when she speaks about the possible classes like managing chronic diseases, cooking matters grocery store tours, along with canning and food preservation. She also expressed a passion for fresh foods by speaking of a link to gardening and growing food.

"I just love fresh produce and think once people have an understanding in ways to grow, use, and to preserve it, they too will have a passion for it," said Stewart.

From starting a farmers market in Manito, IL to working with students in school gardens in Fayetteville, AR, Stewart's passion bloomed. She looks forward to helping her communities to grow and become healthier.

"We all want the same things in life to have healthy, happy families and communities," said Stewart.

Stewart is headquartered in the University of Missouri-Extension Barry County Office in Cassville. For questions, or to schedule classes, visit the University of Missouri Extension office at 700 Main, Suite 4 or call 417-847-3161.
