Missouri Ag Connection - 01/18/2021

The Missouri Cattlemen's Association recognized Rick Anstine, Kingsville, and Leon Kleeman, Miller, with its "Pioneer Award" at its 53rd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show. The award is the highest honor given by the association and is comparable to a lifetime achievement award.

Alongside his sons and their families, Anstine owns and operates Kingsville Livestock Auction. He is a lifelong cattle producer, business owner and family man.

"The Anstines are at the forefront of the livestock industry, and Rick has been an outstanding leader," said Jimmie Long, MCA Stocker/Feeder Council Representative. "Rick has taken a small business and turned it into one of the state's major markets. He has always been a trailblazer who finds new ways to make the producer more income and support Missouri producers and our association in any way he can."

Kleeman and wife, Glenda, founded Gleonda Angus Farms in Southwest Missouri after years of raising, showing and working with cattle and within the Missouri cattle industry. They continue their efforts as they help raise the fourth, fifth and sixth generations on their farm.

"Leon meets every qualification for this awards, as he has not only left a path for others to follow but has helped lead myself and several others down that path," said Traves Merrick, grandson and MCA Region 7 Vice President. "He has truly dedicated a lifetime to the cattle industry and now has multiple generations with the same dedication. He is a true pioneer of the Missouri beef industry."

MCA President Marvin Dieckman said it is individuals like Anstine and Kleeman that make the Missouri beef industry the strong, sustainable industry it is.

"We are blessed to be in a position where we have such great leaders, we simply can't pick just one Pioneer Awardee," Dieckman said. "Both of these individuals have dedicated their lives and careers to the Missouri cattle industry and have already created outstanding legacies not only with their business and successes, but also with generations of passionate cattlemen and women coming up in their footsteps."
