Free 'Raised Bed Gardening and Landscaping' June 24 in Nixa

University of Missouri Extension's Christian County Master Gardeners will host a program on "Raised Bed Gardening and Landscaping" beginning at 6:30 p.m. on June 24 at Central Bank of the Ozarks at the intersections of Highways 14 and 160 in Nixa.
The program is free but seated is limited to 20 guests. Please call the MU Extension office in Ozark at 581-3558 to reserve a seat.
The speaker, Kay Frazier, is the retail store manager at Carson's Nurseries in Springfield. Her presentation will cover using raised beds for growing vegetables, flowers and shrubs that can be incorporated into a larger landscape. She encourages members and
guests to come with questions about not only raised bed and container gardening but any gardening topic.
Frazier has worked in horticulture for the last 30 years, but her interest in plants and gardening started when she was a child, beginning with a vegetable garden. She spent 12 years working at a local greenhouse, helping with production of annual plants on a
seasonal basis and growing produce for the same market. Frazier and her husband started a greenhouse at their farm, focusing on vegetable plants in four greenhouses that they sold to retailers. The couple retired from the business several years ago, and Frazier
began a career at Carson's Nurseries.
The 15-year-old chapter supports plant sales in the spring and fall, free public gardening seminars, advanced training workshops for Master Gardeners, a demonstration vegetable garden at the OC, a scholarship for a student at College of the Ozarks, and
gardens at Woodfield, Nixa Rotary Garden, Nixa Community Center, Justice Center in Ozark and Clever City Hall. Chapter volunteers also staff a gardening hotline, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. from mid-March to mid-October at the Extension office, 581-3558,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
