Missouri Cotton Planting Nears Completion

Temperatures last week averaged 75.0 degrees, 0.4 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.62 inches statewide, 0.38 inches below normal. There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 22 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 12 percent short, 79 percent adequate and 8 percent surplus.

Corn silking was at 7 percent this week, 3 percentage points ahead of last year. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted progressed to 94 percent, 19 percentage points ahead of last year, while soybeans emerged progressed to 87 percent, 27 percentage points ahead of last year. Soybeans blooming progressed to 6 percent. Soybeans condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.

Cotton planted progressed to 95 percent this week, 2 percentage points ahead of last year. Cotton squaring progressed to 12 percent, 1 percentage point ahead of last year. Cotton condition was rated at 19 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 28 percent fair, and 34 percent good.

Rice condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 36 percent good, and 22 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain progressed to 66 percent this week, 24 percentage points ahead of last year. Winter wheat condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
