Mizzou Students Spend Part of Winter Break Volunteering
Missouri Ag Connection - 01/22/2020

More than 350 University of Missouri students will be spending part of their winter break in warmer climates, but they won't be on vacation. Instead, they will be participating in volunteer service projects with Mizzou Alternative Breaks, the nation's largest alternative break program.

"A trip with Mizzou Alternative Breaks is more than traveling to different states, cities and even countries," said Jesus Vega, Mizzou junior and director of leadership development for Mizzou Alternative Breaks. "Our trips help students immerse themselves in a new community and grow as active citizens -- learning to prioritize their community and use their strengths to better serve their communities."

From Jan. 10 to Jan. 19, 351 Mizzou students will be serving 39 community partners in 11 states and the Dominican Republic.

Students will volunteer with community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, wildlife centers and health organizations. Volunteer service locations include:

- Ski Apache Adaptive Sports in Ruidoso, New Mexico

- AWARE Wildlife Center in Lithonia, Georgia

- BEATSinc in Canton, Georgia

- The Meyer Center for Special Children in Greenville, South Carolina
