Missouri Cotton Forecast Down, Rice Up from 2019

Corn: Planted area is estimated at 3.50 million acres, up 9 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 3.35 million acres, is up 12 percent from 2019. Based on August 1 conditions, the Missouri corn yield is forecast at 175 bushels per acre, up 20 bushels from 2019. Production is forecast at 586 million bushels, 26 percent above last year's production.

Soybeans: Planted area is estimated at 5.60 million acres, up 10 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 5.55 million acres, is up 11 percent from 2019. Based on August 1 conditions, the Missouri soybean yield is forecast at 53 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels from 2019. Production is forecast at 294 million bushels, up 28 percent from 2019.

Winter Wheat: Harvested area in 2020 is forecast at 390,000 acres, the same as last year. The winter wheat yield is forecast at 63 bushels per acre, the same as 2019. Production is forecast at 24.6 million bushels, the same as the previous year.

Cotton: Planted area is estimated at 310,000 acres, down 18 percent from last year. Harvested area forecast at 303,000 acres, is down 18 percent from last year. Based on August 1 conditions, the Missouri cotton yield is forecast at 1,331 pounds per acre, up 138 pounds from last year. Production is forecast at 840,000 bales (480-pound), down 8 percent from last year.

Rice: Planted area, estimated at 219,000 acres, is up 17 percent from 2019. Harvested area is forecast at 214,000 acres, up 24 percent from last year. Based on August 1 conditions, the Missouri rice yield is forecast at 7,500 pounds per acre, up 130 pounds per acre from 2019. Production is forecast at 16.1 million cwt, up 26 percent from last year.
