Bike, Wheelchair, Scooter 'Roll and Stroll' at Busch Greenway

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis invite people of all abilities to come and take a spin on a portion of the Busch Greenway located within Missouri Research Park in St. Charles.

The "Roll and Stroll: The Busch Greenway by Bike, Wheelchair, Scooter, or Foot" event takes place Aug. 24 from 5-7 p.m. This free program is tailored to persons who have disabilities and their families or support givers, but people of all abilities can attend. If it's got wheels, and you power it, you can take it for a spin on the Busch Greenway. Three-wheeled cycles, bikes pulling carts or wagons, wheelchairs, and scooters are all welcome and everyone is free to go at their own pace. The event is open to anyone who would like to walk the trail as well.

Participants will wheel along a one-mile stretch of the greenway, which is paved, level and mostly shaded by trees. At the end of the mile, riders will have the option of continuing along the Katy Trail as far as they wish or turn back to the starting point. Riders should note that while also flat, the Katy Trail's surface is crushed limestone. There will also be the chance to see a demonstration of motorized Track Chairs in action.

All riders must have a working bike, helmet and support accompaniment on the ride. No gas-powered vehicles or devices of transport will be allowed. Participants should bring water, bug repellant, and note that no restroom facilities will be available at the starting point or along the way. Advanced registration is required through the Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis by calling 636-477-7704.

To reach the starting point, take exit 11 from I-64 and follow Research Park Drive until it terminates at the water treatment plant. The parking lot is located at the Busch Greenway Trailhead.
