Missouri Marks National Farm Safety and Health Week
Missouri Ag Connection - 09/24/2020

Harvest time is always a special time in the Midwest. For many row crop farmers, it's their favorite time of year. They get to see the fruits of their labor and ag technology showing off through a successful cover crop plan, new seed varieties or a different weed management system. The excitement builds for several months as we watch our crops go through each meaningful stage.

2020 has been yet another challenging year for Missouri farmers and ranchers. Extreme weather from both ends of the spectrum have hit our state over the last two years. And now, COVID-19 has impacted every aspect our lives on and off the farm.

National Farm Safety and Health Week is Sept. 20-26, but the Show-Me Farm Safety program works throughout the year to reduce injuries and fatalities that occur on the farm. Especially during these uncertain times, farmers and ranchers can all agree that safety is a high priority. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture, there are about 3.4 million agricultural producers in America, which is only about one percent of our population. These farmers and ranchers not only provide the essentials that we need, but they do wonderful things for their families and friends, their communities, and beyond.
