Missouri Cotton Production Forecast Up 21 Percent

Corn: Planted area is estimated at 3.65 million acres, up 6 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 3.38 million acres, is up 3 percent from 2020. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri corn yield is forecast at 164 bushels per acre, down 7 bushels from 2020. Production is forecast at 554 million bushels, 1 percent below last year's production.

Soybeans: Planted area is estimated at 5.70 million acres, down 3 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 5.65 million acres, is down 3 percent from 2020. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri soybean yield is forecast at 50 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from 2020. Production is forecast at 282.5 million bushels, down 5 percent from 2020.

Cotton: Harvested area is forecast at 310,000 acres, up 8 percent from last year. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri cotton yield is forecast at 1,285 pounds per acre, up 141 pounds from last year. Production is forecast at 830,000 bales (480-pound), up 21 percent from last year.

Rice: Planted area, estimated at 199,000 acres, is down 13 percent from 2020. Harvested area is forecast at 194,000 acres, down 9 percent from last year. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri rice yield is forecast at a record 8,000 pounds per acre, up 750 pounds per acre from 2020. Production is forecast at 15.5 million cwt, down less than 1 percent from last year.

Alfalfa hay: Harvested area, forecast at 220,000 acres, is unchanged from 2020. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri alfalfa hay yield is forecast at 2.40 tons per acre, down 0.30 tons from the previous year. Production is forecast at 528,000 tons, down 11 percent from 2020.

Other hay: Harvested area, forecast at 2.9 million acres, is up 2 percent from 2020. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri other hay yield is forecast at 2.00 tons per acre, down 0.05 tons from last year. Production is forecast at 5.8 million tons, down 1 percent from 2020.
