Majority of Missouri Cotton, Rice Rate Fair to Good

There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Temperatures last week averaged 82.0 degrees statewide, 8.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.19 inches, 0.75 inch below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 18 percent short, 75 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Corn emerged was 97 percent compared to the 5-year average of 95 percent. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was 85 percent complete, even with the 5-year average. Soybeans emerged was 69 percent compared to the 5-year average of 72 percent. Soybean condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.

Cotton squaring was at 6 percent compared to the 5-year average of 24 percent. Cotton condition was rated at 5 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 26 percent fair, and 62 percent good.

Rice condition was rated at 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 54 percent good and 13 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain was at 34 percent compared to the 5-year average of 35 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 48 percent good and 9 percent excellent.
