University of Missouri Upgrades NW Missouri Weather Station to Real-Time Data
Missouri Ag Connection - 06/09/2023

The University of Missouri's Commercial Agriculture Program is set to launch a real-time weather station at the Graves-Chapple Center in Rockport, Missouri. This upgrade comes as a welcome addition to the existing network of weather stations across the state.

The South Atchison weather station, as it is known, will provide automated critical information to the agricultural community, aiding in timely decision-making for planting and spraying activities.

Managed by the Missouri Mesonet, the weather station will deliver five-minute updates on crucial parameters such as temperature, dew point, humidity, wind speed and direction, bare soil temperatures, as well as expected wind speeds and gusts.

It will also record sunrise and sunset times, along with historical weather data. Farmers and agribusinesses in the region will now have easy access to accurate local weather conditions, allowing them to plan their field operations more effectively.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the upgraded weather station will take place on August 22, coinciding with the Graves-Chapple Center's annual field day. This collaboration with Midwest Data and the support from the Missouri Legislature for funding both the weather station upgrade and the new facility have been crucial in bringing these enhancements to the northwest region.

The University of Missouri Extension remains committed to supporting the agricultural community by providing valuable resources for informed decision-making.
