Join winter cattle feeding workshop in Lockwood

As cattle producers gear up for winter, the focus on nutritional management and hay feeding becomes increasingly vital. “As cattle producers prepare for winter, nutritional management and hay feeding are important topics,” states Patrick Davis, livestock field specialist with the University of Missouri Extension.

Given the rising costs of hay and supplements, efficient use of available forage resources is crucial for maintaining profitability in cattle operations.

“Previous years of drought and continued dry weather this year have stressed pastures,” notes MU Extension agronomy specialist Micah Doubledee.

This situation highlights the need for pasture renovation and effective management strategies to enhance forage availability in the future.

Implementing specific management techniques during the winter and early spring can significantly improve the forage base and increase cattle grazing potential for the upcoming year.

In response to these challenges, MU Extension aims to support cattle producers through education. “MU Extension wants to educate cattle producers and farmers to help them manage their cattle and pastures through the winter months to be successful in the coming year,” explains Davis.

To facilitate this, Davis and Doubledee are hosting winter cattle feeding and pasture management workshop on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.

The event will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Lockwood. A complimentary meal will be provided, courtesy of Arvest Bank.

While attendance is free, registration by Nov. 19 is required https://extension.missouri.edu/events/winter-cattle-feeding-and-pasture-management-workshop-lockwood-mo or by calling MU Extension in Dade County at 417-637-2112.

For additional questions, contact Davis at 417-276-3313 or via email at davismp@missouri.edu.
