Missouri State’s Journagan Ranch Breaks Sales Record

Missouri State’s Journagan Ranch Breaks Sales Record

By Blake Jackson

Missouri State University’s Journagan Ranch achieved a record-breaking milestone during its 35th annual Genetically Yours Sale, generating $709,200 in gross sales, surpassing last year's record of $650,000. The strong results reflected extensive preparation and collaboration between ranch staff and students.

The sale featured 103 lots, with 102 successfully sold after one bred heifer was withdrawn. More than 200 attendees participated, while growing numbers of online and out-of-state buyers highlighted the ranch’s expanding reach and reputation for quality cattle genetics.

Ranch manager Marty Lueck credited the ranch’s long-term success to its focus on superior genetics and continuous herd improvement through careful evaluation and DNA testing. The operation has built a strong reputation by providing buyers with proven, high-quality breeding stock.

The event also served as an important learning experience for agriculture students. They assisted with feeding and caring for cattle, preparing display pens and organizing the auction facility, gaining practical skills that complemented their classroom education.

Graduate student Grace Manning developed hands-on livestock management experience, including cattle preparation and grooming. Junior agricultural education major Easton Cook learned cattle-handling techniques and observed animal health care practices, gaining valuable exposure to the livestock industry.

According to farm operations manager Garrett Kirk, students played a major role in ensuring a smooth and efficient sale day. Their dedication and teamwork helped make the event one of the most successful and well-organized sales in recent years.

Having managed the ranch since 1981, Marty Lueck continues to support the vision of providing students with real-world agricultural experience. The success of this year's sale showcased both the ranch’s excellence in cattle genetics and Missouri State University’s commitment to hands-on agricultural education.
