The University of Missouri Extension is offering a free “Jump-Start Your Farm” webinar designed to help aspiring farmers make informed decisions before purchasing farmland or starting an agricultural business. The session will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18.
“Lots of people dream of owning a small farm and starting a farm business but aren’t sure where to get started or if farming is right for them,” said Justin Keay, MU Extension field specialist in horticulture. “This webinar will help you identify important considerations to make before purchasing a farm property or starting a farm business.”
Participants will learn about key topics such as selecting farmland, understanding farm infrastructure needs, and developing a practical business plan for a small-scale operation.
The webinar will also introduce MU’s Intel for Ag tool, which assists users in identifying sustainable agricultural enterprises suited to their goals and resources.
As an added incentive, one participant will receive complimentary registration to the Great Plains Growers Conference, scheduled for January 9-10, 2026, in St. Joseph, Missouri. “The Great Plains Growers Conference is the premier fruit and vegetable growers conference in the region,” Keay said.
