Missouri Rice, Corn Planting Lags Far Behind Average Pace



There were 3.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Temperatures last week averaged 57.5 degrees statewide, 1.4 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.48 inch, 0.41 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent short, 72 percent adequate and 27 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 27 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 52 percent. Corn emerged was 3 percent compared to the 5-year average of 17 percent.

Soybeans planted was 5 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 6 percent.

Cotton planted was at 8 percent, even with the 5-year average.

Rice planted was 5 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 51 percent. Rice emerged was 1 percent compared to the 5-year average of 24 percent.

Winter wheat headed was 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 34 percent. Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 62 percent good and 6 percent excellent.
