For Wyatt Hendley, agriculture has always been more than a field of study. Growing up on his family’s seventh-generation farm in Bloomfield, Missouri, shaped both his future ambitions and his commitment to supporting rural communities.
After graduating this spring from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in agribusiness: industry, Hendley is preparing for the next chapter of his education at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Hendley plans to focus on agricultural law and eventually return home to southeast Missouri to assist farmers with legal and business challenges facing modern agriculture.
“I want to come back to Bloomfield and help local farmers with succession planning and agricultural regulation,” Hendley said.
During his time at SEMO, Hendley became active in several student organizations that connected classroom learning with leadership and advocacy opportunities in agriculture.
Through Collegiate Farm Bureau, he represented Missouri agriculture in Washington, D.C., and competed in statewide and national contests.
“I am very proud of the opportunities SEMO offered me in their different student organizations. Through the Collegiate Farm Bureau, I was able to compete for Farm Bureau Ambassador, and represent Missouri Agriculture in Washington D.C.," said Hendley.
"I also competed in The Discussion Meet competition and was able to represent SEMO as the state champion, and compete in Portland, Oregon earlier this year. These opportunities were only available because of the great connections and experiences SEMO's Agriculture department have offered me.”
Hendley said the relationships and experiences he gained at SEMO helped prepare him for law school and his future career.
“Without SEMO, I wouldn’t have been able to make the connections that will last far beyond graduation,” he said.
Beyond academics, Hendley also remembers the excitement of campus life, especially a memorable SEMO football victory that introduced him to Redhawk pride and school spirit.
