State Corn, Cotton, Rice Production Expected Lower



Planted corn area is estimated at 3.35 million acres, down 7 percent from last year, reports USDA's National Ag Statistics Service for Missouri. Harvested area, forecast at 3.20 million acres, is also down 7 percent from last year. Based on September 1 conditions, the Missouri corn yield is forecast at 149 bushels per acre, down 11 bushels from 2021. Production is forecast at 477 million bushels, 13 percent below last year's production.

Planted soybean area is estimated at 6.10 million acres, up 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 6.05 million acres, is up 7 percent from 2021. Based on September 1 conditions, the Missouri soybean yield is forecast at 47 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from 2021. Production is forecast at 284 million bushels, up 3 percent from 2021.

Harvested cotton area is forecast at 300,000 acres, down 3 percent from last year. Based on September 1 conditions, the Missouri cotton yield is forecast at 1,152 pounds per acre, down 108 pounds from last year. Production is forecast at 720,000 bales (480-pound), down 12 percent from last year.

Planted rice area, estimated at 155,000 acres, is down 22 percent from 2021. Harvested area is forecast at 149,000 acres, down 23 percent from last year. Based on September 1 conditions, the Missouri rice yield is forecast at 7,600 pounds per acre, down 440 pounds per acre from 2021. Production is forecast at 11.3 million cwt, down 27 percent from last year.
