The University of Missouri Tomato Festival is Back!

The University of Missouri Tomato Festival is Back!

The University of Missouri Tomato Festival is returning on Thursday, September 7th from 4-7pm at the Jefferson Farm Extension and Education Center in Columbia. This free event will feature tastings of 100 varieties of tomatoes and peppers, salsas, and other tomato products. MU Extension horticulturist David Trinklein will give a talk on how to grow the tastiest tomatoes. There will also be a cooking demonstration with tomatoes and fingerling potatoes.

Kids will have plenty to do at the Tomato Festival as well. They can enjoy flavored milk tasting, pedal tractors, and barnyard animals. A local vendor will be selling heirloom tomatoes, and Heart of Missouri Master Gardeners will be selling perennials from Jefferson Farm's butterfly garden.

The Tomato Festival is sponsored by the MU Central Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center and the MU Jefferson Farm Extension and Education Center.

"We're excited to host the Tomato Festival once again and invite everyone to attend this fun and free event," said Tim Reinbott, communications director for the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station.

The Jefferson Farm Extension and Education Center is located at 4800 New Haven Road in Columbia. For more information, please visit the MU Extension website or call 573-875-2870.
