The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is encouraging hunters to prepare for Missouri’s dove season, which opens on September 1, 2026, and runs through November 29, 2026. Known for its fast-paced action and accessibility, dove hunting remains a popular opportunity for both experienced sportsmen and newcomers.
“With ample public hunting areas, managed fields, and solid bird populations, dove season offers some of the most accessible and exciting wing-shooting action of the year,” said MDC Protection Regional Supervisor Russell Duckworth.
“It’s fast-paced, social, and a perfect opportunity to introduce new hunters to the outdoors. Whether you’re hunting with family, friends, or a youth group, it’s one of the most enjoyable seasons we offer.”
Hunters may harvest a combined daily limit of 15 mourning and white-winged doves, with a possession limit of 45 birds.
Missouri residents ages 16 to 64 must carry a small game hunting permit, while hunters 16 and older also need a migratory bird hunting permit. Nonresidents must obtain the appropriate nonresident permits.
Many conservation areas require non-toxic shot, and hunting hours extend from one-half hour before sunrise until sunset.
“Always be aware of your surroundings and maintain a safe zone of fire,” said Duckworth. “Respect other hunters, pick up spent shells, and leave the field better than you found it. Ethical hunting helps ensure a positive experience for everyone.”
