Missouri Native Plant Sale Returns to Kansas City

Missouri Native Plant Sale Returns to Kansas City

By Blake Jackson

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with the Missouri Prairie Foundation and its Grow Native! program, will host its annual native plant sale on September 12, 2026, at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center in Kansas City.

The event will give gardeners, landowners, and nature enthusiasts an opportunity to purchase a wide selection of Missouri native plants that support pollinators, songbirds, and other wildlife while enhancing landscapes.

Visitors can shop for native wildflowers, grasses, sedges, vines, shrubs, and trees supplied by several Grow Native! member nurseries. Native plant-inspired products, including bee houses and home décor items, will also be available from local vendors.

“The Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center uses native plants and trees in its landscape to showcase the value of incorporating natives into various settings,” said Steve Jacobsen, Assistant Nature Center Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the Discovery Center. “Native plants and trees also provide quality habitat for wildlife.”

The sale will begin at 10 a.m., when customers can pick up pre-orders, browse vendor selections, and make purchases. Volunteers will be available throughout the event to assist shoppers.

Several participating nurseries are accepting advance orders to help customers reserve specific plants before the sale. The event offers a convenient way to obtain native species that enhance biodiversity, improve habitat quality, and support healthy ecosystems across Missouri landscapes.
