The Alliance for Grassland Renewal is hosting a free, two-part evening webinar series titled “Improving the Production Efficiency of Tall Fescue-Based Forage Systems” on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26. Producers may choose to attend one session or participate in both, as each webinar is designed to stand alone. A detailed agenda is available on the Alliance for Grassland Renewal website.
According to University of Missouri Extension beef nutrition specialist Eric Bailey, “researchers and extension professionals from across the U.S. will share the latest recommendations for managing both traditional toxic tall fescue and novel-endophyte varieties.” The sessions are aimed at helping livestock producers strengthen herd performance while improving overall farm profitability.
The webinars will cover the background and development of tall fescue, the causes and impacts of fescue toxicosis, forage species selection, and how ergot alkaloids influence livestock health and productivity.
Two University of Missouri Extension specialists will contribute to the program. Jared Decker, Wurdack chair of animal genomics, will discuss selecting livestock suited for tall fescue-based systems. Jordan Thomas, MU beef reproduction specialist, will focus on forage management strategies that support improved reproductive outcomes.
Online registration is required to participate.
