Why not transform your yard into a habitat where pollinators can thrive and native plants can flourish? The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a hands-on workshop to help residents do just that.
The Less Lawn, More Life: Plan the Rewilding workshop will take place from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at Flora & Forge, 315 W Commercial Street in Springfield. Conservation Educator Stacia Skinner and Private Land Conservationist Ethan Kleekamp will guide attendees through preparing their landscape for seasonal planting, winter seeding, and creating a nature-friendly yard.
“Whether you're starting small or envisioning a backyard national park, this session will help you create a space where biodiversity thrives and nature comes home,” Skinner said.
Attendees will have access to examples of different garden setups, seed catalogs, native wildflower guides, and seed packs. Participants should bring paper and pencils for sketching ideas and taking notes. They are also encouraged to bring photos and rough measurements of the area they wish to transform.
“With that info, we can sketch the area out and pick native plants that match the sunlight and moisture conditions and set you up for success,” Skinner added.
All attendees must be 18 or older, and registration is required at mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com.
