The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a prescribed burn workshop for landowners on October 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Versailles Tool Barn in Versailles, Missouri. The workshop is designed to help participants learn how prescribed fire can be safely and effectively used to improve land management.
Prescribed burning is often used to enhance native plant diversity, improve wildlife habitat, and control unwanted vegetation. However, proper planning and execution are essential to ensure burns are both safe and successful.
Participants must register in advance and complete a required online prescribed burn course before attending the workshop. The virtual training carries a $25 fee, and attendees must bring proof of completion to the in-person session.
If weather conditions permit, MDC staff will conduct a live prescribed burn demonstration, allowing participants to observe techniques and safety practices in the field.
Attendees should wear long-sleeved shirts and pants made from natural fibers, leather gloves, and closed-toe leather boots. Bringing a sack lunch and water is also recommended.
