The University of Missouri Extension is hosting three food safety training workshops to assist food processors in enhancing product value and meeting safety regulations. All events will take place in person at the Eckles Event Center on the MU campus in Columbia.
The first workshop, Applied Food Safety Microbiology Training, will be held on October 17-18. Microbial control programs play a key role in preventing spoilage, toxigenic and pathogenic microorganisms in a variety of raw and finished food products, said Lakshmikantha “Kantha” Channaiah, assistant professor and state extension specialist in the MU Division of Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, who will administer the training.

The second workshop, Better Process Control School (Acidified Foods), is scheduled for October 24-25. Designed for operators and manufacturers of thermally processed acidified foods, this FDA-recognized course provides instruction on meeting federal regulations. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate to fulfill the training requirement.

The third workshop, Preventive Control Qualified Individual (Human Food) Training, will be held on November 6-8. This training is mandatory for registered food manufacturing facilities under the Food Safety Modernization Act. Participants will learn how to develop effective food safety plans to ensure the safety of finished products.

All three workshops are open to Missourians at no cost, while out-of-state participants will be charged a fee of $450.
