Learning how to grow native plants from seed is a great way to ensure their resilience and adaptability are carried on to future generations. Fall and winter often provide the most favorable conditions for sowing many native plant species.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering an opportunity for people to explore this process through its online program, Native Plants: Seed Sowing Basics.
The virtual session will take place on Thursday, September 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This free program will not be recorded, and registration is required in advance at: https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/210726
During the session, MDC Naturalist Jordi Raos will cover key aspects of successful seed sowing. Topics include the best seasons for planting, preparing seed beds, and techniques for sowing native seeds. Participants will also gain practical knowledge about collecting and storing seeds to ensure they are ready for future growing seasons. The program is open to all ages.
Registrants must provide an email address to receive the program link. A live, chat-based Q&A will give attendees the chance to ask questions and interact with the presenter.
MDC also offers a variety of other in-person and virtual programs across Missouri. A full schedule is available at https://mdc.mo.gov/events.
