Hollowstead Seed Co., a new family-owned seed company based in Texas County, Missouri, has officially launched, offering a selection of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds along with free educational resources for gardeners.
Founded by Benjamin Thompson and Emma Thompson, the business aims to help home gardeners succeed by providing both quality seeds and practical growing information.
“A seed packet is really only the beginning,” Benjamin Thompson said. “We want people to have both the seeds and the practical information they need to grow them successfully.”
The company’s website, hollowsteadseeds.com, features a growing library of guides covering topics such as seed starting, direct sowing, transplanting, succession planting, harvesting, and solving common gardening challenges. The educational materials are designed to support gardeners at every stage of the growing process.
Thompson brings years of hands-on experience to the venture. He previously operated a small market farm, helped establish a perennial food forest project in Illinois, and continues developing a food forest on the family’s property near Bucyrus, Missouri.
Currently, Hollowstead sources seeds from commercial suppliers while building its product catalog and customer base. However, the company plans to produce an increasing share of its own seed in the future while expanding its educational offerings.
Operating as a family-run business, Hollowstead Seed Co. sells products through its online store and offers local pickup by appointment. By combining seeds with practical gardening education, the company hopes to give growers the knowledge and confidence needed for a successful garden season.
