Woods Equipment is marking its 80th anniversary by expanding support for agricultural education programs and student training initiatives across the Midwest.
The company announced financial contributions to six universities along with several community-based agricultural organizations as part of its long-term investment in the future agricultural workforce.
“For 80 years, our equipment has worked alongside farmers and the next generation of land stewards,” said Jillian Love, Marketing Manager at Woods Equipment.
“These partnerships are our way of giving back and making sure there is a next generation ready to carry that work forward.”
Company officials said the effort comes as agriculture continues to face concerns over workforce shortages. National projections estimate that less than half of future agriculture-related job openings through 2030 may be filled by graduates trained in food and agricultural sciences.
To help strengthen the talent pipeline, Woods is supporting programs that provide students with practical agricultural experience through student farms, apprenticeships, and technical education.
“Programs like student-run farms, apprenticeship tracks and youth organizations give students real-world experience they can’t get from a textbook alone,” said Derek Paulsen, Vice President and General Manager of Woods Equipment.
“By supporting these efforts and organizations in our own community, we’re helping students build skills that will sustain farms, municipalities and rural communities for decades to come.”
Among the company’s local investments are donations to Ogle County 4-H and agricultural education at Oregon Community High School in Illinois. Woods will also contribute to scholarship and research initiatives at Illinois State University.
Other partnerships include support for turfgrass and apprenticeship programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, sustainable agriculture projects at The Ohio State University, and student-operated farm programs at Kansas State University and the University of Missouri.
Scholarships will also be funded through a partnership involving Michigan State University and St. Clair County Community College.
