Missouri Farmers are Invited for Food Safety and Soil Health Practices

By Blake Jackson

Farmers, growers, and agricultural professionals will have an opportunity to learn about food safety and conservation practices during an upcoming field day at Happy Hollow Farm, LLC in Jamestown, Missouri.

The event is scheduled for June 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will provide hands-on learning experiences focused on sustainable farming and natural resource stewardship.

Participants will receive practical guidance from farm owner Liz Graznak and collaborating agricultural partners on producing healthy, safe fruits and vegetables while protecting valuable natural resources.

The program will cover key federal regulations that govern fresh produce safety in the United States and explain how growers can identify potential contamination risks on their farms.

Attendees will tour the certified organic farm and observe real-world examples of practices used to reduce contamination risks and maintain food safety standards.

Organizers will also discuss methods for improving soil health, water quality, plant and animal health, air quality, and energy efficiency on diversified vegetable farms.

The field day will highlight conservation practices supported through Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) programs, including Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) projects currently in use on the farm.

Participants will also learn how to apply for NRCS technical and financial assistance, including opportunities available through the new Regenerative Pilot Program.

Additional information will be provided about conservation resources offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation, local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the University of Missouri CRCL project.

The event is free to attend and is being organized through a partnership involving Missouri Farmers Union, Happy Hollow Organic Farm, Missouri Rural Crisis Center, and MU Extension.

Because the program includes extensive walking, attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
