Missouri Ag Connection - 01/22/2021

The Missouri CattleWomen's Association (MCW) gave its top honor, CattleWoman of the Year, to Darla Haines from Mexico during the 53rd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show held in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Each year, MCW honors a lady who has been a strong advocate for agriculture with a deep passion for the beef industry.

Donnia Besher, 2019 CattleWoman of the Year, said Haines has made a positive impact on Missouri agriculture and the men and women in it.

"She is passionate about the beef industry and is always asking questions to gain knowledge and make sure she has the facts. She is a strong advocate for MCW and MCA. She has been a board member of MCW for over six years. She has served as secretary of MCW for over four years. She has also taken on the responsibility of being the Beef Queen contest Chair," Besher said. "She strongly believes there is no better life than one on a farm."

The Haines family consists of her husband John, who describes her as the backbone of their operation. Together, they have two sons, Jake, a senior at Mexico High School and MCF Scholarship Recipient, and Nick, a Mexico High School freshman. They run a large grain operation and manage several cow/calf pairs.

The Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show is hosted by the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, MCW, Missouri's Cattlemen Foundation, Missouri Junior Cattlemen's Association and the Missouri Beef Industry Council.
