Thirty high school seniors from across Missouri recently concluded the ninth annual Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence (HYPE) FFA Academy, held in Jefferson City. Sponsored by the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, this three-day event served as a platform for empowering future leaders in agriculture and equipping them with the skills to effectively advocate for the industry.
With the goal of cultivating strong voices for agriculture, the HYPE Academy provided students with invaluable knowledge and training. Participants honed their communication and personal skills, learning how to share their farming experiences, overcome challenges, and engage in meaningful conversations. The program encompassed advocacy training, communication essentials, and social media outreach, featuring insights from farmers, industry experts, social media influencers, and Congressman Mark Alford.
Students had the opportunity to visit the Missouri Soybean Center for Innovation, where they explored cutting-edge research and advancements benefiting farmers. The academy culminated in mock legislative hearings at the Missouri State Capitol, where students presented key issues to prominent figures such as Missouri Senator Barbara Washington, State Representatives Willard Haley, Jim Schulte, Emily Weber, Ashley Aune, Peggy McGaugh, and Doyle Justus. They also had a chance to meet Missouri's Director of Agriculture, Chris Chinn.
This transformative experience offered FFA members a platform to gain confidence and expand their advocacy toolbox. As they transition into college and careers, these aspiring leaders are now better equipped to tell their stories and advocate for agriculture on a broader scale. The Missouri Corn Merchandising Council's continued support for the HYPE Academy reflects their commitment to nurturing the growth and success of Missouri's students.
The HYPE Academy stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between organizations like the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council and the National FFA Organization. Together, they are shaping the lives of students by fostering premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
