Cattle producers looking to sharpen their skills ahead of calving season are invited to attend a hands-on Calving Clinic hosted by University of Missouri Extension.
The event will take place on August 22 at the MU Extension Center in Howell County, located at 1376 Bill Virdon Blvd. in West Plains.
Designed for all experience levels, the clinic will feature both classroom instruction and hands-on training. Participants will gain practical experience in assisting with difficult births, including calf pulling techniques and esophageal tube feeding.
According to MU Extension livestock specialist Elizabeth Picking, the clinic aims to provide a supportive and educational environment where attendees can learn essential skills.
Topics will include identifying normal and abnormal birth presentations, knowing when to intervene during labor, using obstetric chains correctly, and safely administering tube feedings to calves. The course will also offer guidance on selecting appropriate colostrum products.
The registration fee is $45, and class size is limited to ensure individual attention and ample practice time. Early registration is encouraged.
For more information or to reserve a spot, contact the Howell County MU Extension Center at 417-256-2391 or register online. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to prepare for a successful calving season.
