The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with Columbia Public Schools, is inviting the public to learn more about monarch butterflies and their role as important pollinators during a special educational event on September 24, 2026, at the Boone County Nature School in Columbia, Missouri.
The free event will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Participants can explore the nature school grounds from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by an educational presentation from MDC staff from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The program will highlight the Monarch Watch Tagging Program, which helps researchers track monarch butterfly migration patterns. Attendees will learn how the public can participate in conservation and monitoring efforts that support monarch populations.
Open to all ages, the event offers a family-friendly opportunity to learn about pollinator conservation and the ecological importance of monarch butterflies.
