Young Hunters Invited to Learn Missouri Deer Hunt

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering young hunters an opportunity to participate in a free mentored youth deer hunt at Charles Green Conservation Area in Boone County during Missouri’s early youth firearms deer season on October 24-25, 2026.

The event is open to youth ages 11 to 15 and is designed to introduce participants to safe and responsible deer hunting. Activities will begin Saturday morning with target practice at a local shooting range, helping hunters build confidence and improve shooting skills before heading into the field.

Following the range session, participants will spend the remainder of the weekend deer hunting or continue until a deer is successfully harvested. Each hunter will be accompanied by a parent or guardian as well as an MDC mentor throughout the experience.

MDC will provide the necessary hunting equipment, but participants should bring their own snacks, water, and appropriate outdoor clothing.

Youth are also encouraged to complete hunter education before the season begins and must purchase a valid youth hunting permit prior to the event.

Applications for the hunt must be submitted by October 5, 2026, and selected participants will be notified on October 9, 2026.
