Landowners interested in improving woodland health and attracting wildlife still have an opportunity to take part in the upcoming “Healthy Trees - Healthy Wildlife” field day on Saturday, September 13.
The event, hosted by University of Missouri Extension, will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Bill and Margie Haag Farm, located at 8801 Little Tavern Creek Road in Portland, Missouri.
According to Brian Schweiss, MU Extension sustainable forestry specialist, the program is designed for landowners seeking practical ways to manage their forests while supporting diverse wildlife populations.
The free event will provide expert guidance on topics such as forest and wildlife management strategies, controlling invasive species, evaluating log values, and exploring timber sale options.
Specialists from MU Extension will be joined by representatives from the Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and Independent Stave Company to share insights and answer questions from participants.
Lunch will be served on-site following the morning sessions. Registration is available online, and those interested can also reach out directly to Schweiss at Schweissb@missouri.edu or by phone at 573-882-4775.
This educational field day offers landowners valuable tools to balance healthy forests with thriving wildlife habitats.
