The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine is broadening access to veterinary education to better equip veterinarians working with food animals. The initiative ensures they stay informed with the latest practices to protect animal health, assist producers, and safeguard the food supply.
Craig Payne, director of veterinary extension and continuing education, announced the launch of five new on-demand continuing education (CE) courses.
Designed for veterinarians, the courses feature nationally recognized experts and cover practical topics in food animal medicine and production. Each course can be completed at a learner’s own pace and provides up to 0.5 hours of CE credit.
These offerings were developed through the Show-me VET ECHO (Veterinary Education and Training Through Extension and Community Healthcare Outcomes) program.
Since its start in 2021, the program has delivered over 50 interactive sessions, creating opportunities for faculty and practitioners to collaborate on real-world veterinary challenges.
Course contributors include MU faculty members Pamela Adkins, Corinne Bromfield, Tim Evans, Tamara Gull, Craig Payne, and Scott Poock, along with Cody Secrest of Whetstone Veterinary Clinic and Brian Shoemake of Texas A&M University.
“The release of these online courses allows us to extend the reach of veterinary education even further,” said Payne. “They represent the next step for the college to provide flexible, accessible continuing education to veterinarians, and we aim to release a new course each month.”
