Missouri Corn, Rice Planting Make Slow Progress



There were 2.3 days suitable for Missouri fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Temperatures last week averaged 51.4 degrees statewide, 3.5 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.66 inch, 0.67 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 2 percent short, 71 percent adequate and 26 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus.

Corn planted reached 4 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 12 percent.

Rice planted remained at 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 21 percent.

Winter wheat headed remained at 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 7 percent. Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 50 percent good and 7 percent excellent.
