Missouri experienced favorable fieldwork conditions during the week ending September 1, 2024, with 6.1 days suitable for agricultural activities.

The average temperature was 80.0 degrees, 4.7 degrees above normal, and precipitation averaged 0.60 inches, 0.29 inches below normal.

Corn Progress:

  • Corn dented reached 85%, surpassing the 5-year average of 78%.
  • Corn maturity reached 39%, significantly higher than the 5-year average of 18%.
  • Corn harvested for grain reached 5%, compared to the 5-year average of 1%.
  • Corn condition remained mostly good and excellent, with 59% and 20% ratings, respectively.

Soybean Progress:

  • Soybeans blooming reached 95%, in line with the 5-year average.
  • Soybeans setting pods reached 84%, also matching the 5-year average.
  • Soybeans dropping leaves reached 13%, compared to the 5-year average of 2%.
  • Soybean condition was rated 61% good and 13% excellent, with minimal poor or fair ratings.

Cotton Progress:

  • Cotton setting bolls reached 95%, slightly above the 5-year average of 94%.
  • Cotton bolls opening reached 14%, compared to the 5-year average of 12%.
  • Cotton condition was rated 59% good, with a significant portion rated fair or poor.

Rice Progress:

  • Rice harvested reached 15%, surpassing the 5-year average of 2%.
  • Rice condition was rated 66% good, with minimal poor or fair ratings.

Alfalfa Hay:

  • The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 85% completion, slightly behind the 5-year average of 83%.

Overall, Missouri's crops are progressing well, with many crops exceeding or meeting their 5-year average development. However, it's important to continue monitoring crop conditions and weather patterns to ensure a successful harvest.
