On September 9, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Hickory Ridge Orchards in Mexico, MO, will host an informative farm tour focused on implementing best practices for produce safety.
Organized by MU Extension in collaboration with the Missouri Farmers Union, this event is designed to help farmers understand how to develop and maintain a robust produce safety plan, essential for complying with the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA).
Hickory Ridge Orchards is a thriving operation known for its apple production, cider making, and various other value-added products. It also serves as a popular agritourism destination.
During the tour, attendees will gain insights into how the farm integrates produce safety best practices into all aspects of its operations, including crop production, worker training, farm management, and their u-pick operation.
This tour offers a valuable opportunity to see firsthand how a successful farm implements safety measures that protect both the products and the customers.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by the requirements of FSMA or just looking to refine your existing practices, this event will provide practical examples and strategies that can help set you up for success.
The tour is free to attend, but registration is required by September 5th. For more details or to register, visit the Hickory Ridge Orchards website or call 573-324-5464.
