University of Missouri (MU) Extension, in collaboration with the Missouri Organic Association, will host a full-day event focused on organic agriculture in the Ozarks on July 10, 2026, in Mount Vernon. The program will feature educational presentations, group discussions, and field demonstrations designed to support producers interested in organic farming practices.
According to MU Extension plant science field specialist Caleb O’Neal, the free event will offer two specialized learning tracks to cater to different producer needs. One track will focus on organic row crop production, while the other will cover organic poultry systems, including egg-laying flock management and meat bird production.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced farmers, university researchers, industry professionals, and MU Extension specialists. The sessions will highlight practical strategies and real-world approaches for successful organic production.
The event will take place at the University of Missouri Southwest Research, Extension and Education Center, located at 14548 Highway H in Mount Vernon. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and networking. A catered lunch will be provided, giving attendees time to connect with fellow producers, vendors, and speakers. Presentations, discussions, and equipment demonstrations will continue until 3 p.m.
O’Neal emphasized the value of the program for a wide audience. “Whether you are an established organic producer, considering organic certification or simply interested in sustainable farming practices, ‘Organics in the Ozarks' offers valuable information and networking opportunities for operations of all sizes,” said O’Neal.
The event is free to attend; however, preregistration is required. Interested participants can register online, via email media@moaorganic.org, or call 573-200-6114 for more information.
